Engaging with regional communities is crucial for companies like Martinus, particularly when it comes to notifying a small number of property owners about a project that might impact their property or local road network.

A tried and tested way to contact these property owners is via their letterbox, but it can be difficult to get accurate address data on such a highly targeted area.

Typically, people go to Google Maps and take a stab at which addresses to contact.

But Google Maps won’t tell you which of these properties has a letterbox (a lot of regional properties don’t have letterboxes).

And it won’t always be clear from Google Maps whether you’re looking at a home or a business.

At Scopomap, we’ve been working with Martinus, Australia’s largest builder and maintainer of railways, to help them solve this problem.

Right now they’re working on rail upgrades for large sections of the Inland Rail project in regional NSW, spanning around 350km of rail corridor.

“Scopomap has been a huge help in making sure we keep in regular contact with regional communities about what’s happening in their area, especially as we cover such a huge geographical area,” says Jennifer Ross, Martinus Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager.

“It gives us great peace of mind to know we’ve got this accurate tool in our toolkit to help us stay in contact with impacted properties and keep a record of all our interactions.”

“With a project as important as Inland Rail, you can’t leave anything to chance, and this way, we can enhance our capabilities while enhancing our proactive engagement and deep understanding of the needs of the various communities.”
